Never Rowed Before?

No rowing experience is needed to join. Most alumni and members of the team never rowed before college. In fact, 3 time World Champion, 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist, and 2008 Olympic Bronze Medalist, Bryan Volpenhein, got his rowing start right here at OSU. People with no rowing experience join the novice team. During fall practices, the novice teams learn the basics of rowing technique. Practice times vary throughout the day so anyone can come according to his or her daily schedule. As the year rolls on, novice rowers compete nationally at the novice level.

Novice Practices

Feel free to attend any practice time per day. Practice times are listed below. You don’t need to attend the same practice time every day. Novice practices are held at the Drake Union Boathouse on the Olentangy River, located between Lincoln and Morrill Towers.

Men’s Practice Times: 3:00, 4:30, & 6:00pm
Women’s Practice Times: 3:30, 5:00, & 6:30pm

-T-shirt
-Workout shorts
-Socks
-Running shoes/sneakers
